ANDREWS, Texas — The West Texas community is still mourning the loss of a six-year-old boy that was killed in a car incident in mid-August.
On Thursday, when customers visited Domino's in Andrews, ordering a pizza meant more than just having lunch or dinner. It was a way to remember a young life gone too soon.
The event coordinator for Domino's in West Texas, Kristi Flournoy, understood that this is a difficult time for Vincent Hill's family.
“It’s tragic when that happens to one of our West Texas families and we want them to know that they're not alone and that we're here for them," Flournoy said. "Domino's is here for them in any way we can be.”
It had been just a week since a fatal hit-and-run took the life of Vincent. To honor his memory in a special way, Domino's in Andrews hosted "Have a Heart Day."
“When I spoke with Vincent's mother and grandmother, she told us how much he loved his school," Flournoy said. "How much he loved being in the program, his teachers and his teachers aids. So we thought, what better way to give back to Vincent in his honor than to give money to the SPED program at Clear Fork Elementary.”
Whether anyone chose to dine in, carry out or order delivery, people could help support the cause that worked to keep Vincent's memory alive.
Flournoy said from the time the store opened to the time it closed, a portion of all proceeds went to Vincent's school.
This isn't the community's first fundraiser after a tragedy.
"It was tragic, it really just hit home," Flournoy said. "I have two young ones as well and this unfortunately isn't our first time that we've done this. So when this happened, I knew immediately what we were going to do."
The support came from all over the community. From social media posts to the Andrews Chamber of Commerce, everybody was willing to be involved. The Domino's in Lamesa even sent a $250 donation to the fundraiser.
As the community rallied together, this gesture is more than a meal - it's a way to honor Vincent's life and support those who loved him.
