HEB and Senior Life Midland team up to deliver meals to homebound seniors

The meals are more than just food, they're a reminder that the recipients are still part of the community.

MIDLAND, Texas — Senior Life Midland partnered up with HEB partners and volunteers Thursday to deliver warm, nutritious meals to homebound seniors across the Tall City.

“Our homebound meal program is so important to us," Jessicka Gonzales, public affairs for HEB West Texas, said. "We want to make sure all of our homebound neighbors and community members can still enjoy in the festivities and the celebrations of what the holiday season means.”

But these meals on wheels trips to homebound seniors aren't just to give them the meals. To the homebound, it's also about the connection it brings them.

“Through meals on wheels that's a daily touch. That's somebody coming to their front door, making sure that they're okay, providing a vital safety check, but also that human connection," Senior Life Midland Director of Development Tracy Renton said. "Just letting them know that they are cared about and someone does think about them.”

Of course, none of the meals or smiles could be served to those in need without the hard work of volunteers.

“Volunteers are so valuable to this organization and if it weren’t for the volunteers delivering meals on wheels, our homebound elderly would not be able to receive that daily nutritious meal,” Renton said.
