Man in Midland arrested in connection to crash that killed bicyclist

The fatal crash was reported by NewsWest 9 on Sept. 12. Matthew Dominguez has been booked for second degree manslaughter.

MIDLAND, Texas — NewsWest 9 is learning that a man has been arrested in Midland for second degree manslaughter in relation to a crash that killed a bicyclist on Sept. 12.

According to an arrest affidavit, Matthew Dominguez, driving a Chevrolet Silverado 2500, was going east in the 1400 block of Carter Ave. at 6:32 a.m. when he hit a bicyclist crossing the road. The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dominguez told police that he was driving 35 mph at the time of the crash. Dominguez also told police that he had two burritos on his lap and they flew all over the front of his truck at the time of the crash.

After further investigation and looking at GPS data and surveillance footage, it was determined that Dominguez was going 79 mph in a 30 mph zone when he hit and killed the bicyclist.

Dominguez has been booked into the Midland County Detention Center on a $250,000 bond for second degree manslaughter.
