MIDLAND, Texas — Midland County Sheriff candidate Rory McKinney releases a statement regarding the recent Midland County Jail escapee.
The statement reads:
"In response to the recent incident at the Midland County Jail, I emphasize the vital role of training in law enforcement improvement. My commitment remains steadfast: initiating comprehensive training for all personnel, including myself. Collaborative training with other agencies strengthens us as a unified team and community during challenging times. As Sheriff, I'll leverage my experience to ensure proper training, reducing errors and promoting a safer environment for all.
Transparency is key. The lack of information about the incident from the current Sheriff is concerning. Thanks to Midland CrimeStoppers, details surfaced about Michael Nash's escape from the Midland County Central Detention Center. According to the Midland County Sheriff’s Office, Nash's escape occurred due to a manipulation of a secure door. Nash was held for various charges and has out-of-county warrants. Crime Stoppers offers a reward for information leading to his arrest. Contact Crime Stoppers at (432) 694-TIPS or via the P3 TIPS mobile app."
McKinney, a former Midland County Chief Deputy, is running for Midland County Sheriff in the March election.
