Civil rights lawsuit filed by Trinity Four in 2023 will move forward

A jury will decide the damages of civil rights claims brought by the Trinity Four after their wrongful arrest.

MIDLAND, Texas — A federal judge ruled that the civil lawsuit filed by the Trinity Four in 2023 will move forward, and a jury will decide damages.

The lawsuit was filed against Midland County District Attorney Laura Nodolf, Midland County, the City of Midland and Sergeant Jennie Alonzo.

All of the charges against the Trinity Four, Todd Freese, Adrianne Clifton, Chrystal Myers and Shelby Hammer were dropped on April 26, 2023, after they were arrested back in February of 2022 for allegedly failing to report an incident at Trinity School of Midland.

According to the lawsuit, the Trinity Four feel their constitutional rights were violated.

The judge pointed out that there were serious issues with the investigation, noting Alonzo and Nodolf knew “their investigation was incomplete at best, and completely insufficient at worst . . . [I]t was reckless of them to proceed without additional investigation.”

NewsWest 9 has reached out to the City of Midland for comment on the lawsuit moving forward. The responded by saying that they don't "comment on pending litigation."
