MIDLAND, Texas — All three men, involved in a Midland drive-by shooting on Oct. 22 that took the life of 22-year-old Savanna Callaway, have been charged with murder.
According to a previous NewsWest 9 story written up on 18 -year-old Ivan Galindo and 17-year-old Joe Gutierrez, surveillance footage determined the suspected vehicle, a black 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500, is where the gunshots came from.
The vehicle was located, and a search warrant was executed, which led to the arrest of Galindo and Gutierrez.
During the search warrant, a "spent firearm casing" was found inside the truck which matched the caliber of casing found at the crime scene, according to the affidavit.
The affidavit also reported that during police interviews with Galindo and Gutierrez, they admitted to being present in the vehicle when the shooting occurred.
Galindo also admitted to driving the Silverado as Gutierrez and 18-year-old Daniel Velasquez opened fire towards a man who they said they had problems with, according to the affidavit.
That is when the stray bullets killed Callaway in a parked vehicle, who was right next to the man they were trying to shoot at, according to the arrest affidavit.
During an initial investigation, Velasquez was not located, however, the Midland Police Department was able to do more thorough interviews with witnesses to get the identification of Velasquez.
According to an affidavit obtained for Velasquez, a series of interviews with a cooperating witness was able to determine the second shooter to be known as "Dano", later identified as Daniel Velasquez.
The affidavit states that the cooperating witness was in the vehicle with Galindo, Gutierrez and Velasquez before the drive-by murder, however, the witness was not involved with the crime.
Through a social media profile, a photo lineup and local and Department of Public Safety records, Velasquez was found and arrested for his involvement in the murder of Callaway.
Ivan Galindo and Joe Gutierrez's bond have been set at $1 million, however, the newly arrested Daniel Velasquez has no bond set.
