MIDLAND, Texas — As family and friends mourn the loss of 10-year-old Alex Wise Jr., a student at IDEA Travis who passed away following a hit-and-run, staff members of the school helped hold a balloon release Monday evening on campus.
Family who spoke shared their appreciation for the support they’ve received, while teachers and staff remembered the smile and positive energy that Alex brought to school every day.
As many took part in honoring him, sunshine wasn’t the only thing lighting up the clear blue sky.
Gold balloons honored the life of 10-year-old Alex, also known as AJ.
A moment to grieve for family, and for classmates who became friends.
As balloons filled the air, a mural for AJ has grown where the accident happened east of campus on Latta St. and Lamesa Rd.
Messages read “We love you AJ,” “Forever my boy big AJ boo” and “You will forever be missed."
A collection of love painting a picture of AJ’s life and helping to tell his story.
His spirit lives on in the lives he touched, illustrated in more ways than one.
It was an emotional evening for those in attendance.
There is a special memorial fundraiser being held at Super Mercado in Midland on Saturday, Feb. 17, that includes a car wash, bake sale, food and a mini car show. All proceeds will go towards funeral expenses.
